Welcome to the web site that University of North Georgia (UNG) has developed in support of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Substantive Change Committee visit in September 2013.

Prior to consolidation, both North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU) and Gainesville State College (GSC) were SACSCOC-accredited institutions.  NGCSU was a Level V institution of 6,500 students and GSC was Level II with 8,700 students; the consolidated UNG is Level V.

At its January 2012 meeting, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the consolidation of NGCSU and GSC. Both institutions spent 2012 planning and preparing for the consolidation with more than 70 detailed work teams of faculty, staff, and students from every area of operation. The Consolidation Prospectus was submitted to SACSCOC in September 2012 and was approved at their December 2012 Board meeting, with an effective date of January 8, 2013.

A distinguishing characteristic of UNG, carried over from NGCSU, is its designation as one of the six senior military colleges in the United States. Approximately 750 UNG students on the Dahlonega campus comprise the Corps of Cadets.  UNG has four campuses – Cumming, Dahlonega, Gainesville, and Oconee – all within about a 40-mile radius of one another in the northern region of the state. The Dahlonega campus houses the administrative headquarters for UNG.

An accreditation management system has been used to assist in the navigation and review of the Substantive Change Report.  After you click on the Submission tab at the top of the screen, you will find an Index to all sections on the left-hand side.  By clicking on the appropriate standard, you will be taken directly to the narrative and evidence supporting our response to that standard.

If you have any problems or questions, please call or contact Dr. Denise Young at 706.867.3281 or denise.young@ung.edu.  Dr. Young is Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and serves as the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison.

We look forward to your visit to UNG in September.
